So It’s Not The Fire And Rain Guy?

All right, let’s get this over with, I like Justin Timberlake’s music. I have all 3 (or is it 4?) albums and I like most of the material. I have yet to wrap my head around why this is so because: a) I hate dance music, b) hate Nsync, c) hate bands that sound like Nsync, c-1) I can’t spell Nsync c-2) I Really hate dance music, and d) I don’t hear a whole lot of top 40 songs that I want to listen to again. Cry Me A River got my attention off of his first album but to be honest I didn’t start listening to him until SNL aired D*ck in A Box which I thought was pure genius! I picked up FutureSex/LoveSounds and thought it was the best pop album I had heard in a really long time (Since Faith, maybe?). The dude has proven himself as a solo artist, actor and I heard he’s married to a hot actress so I should hate him, but I don’t. Even the long jams on 20/20 Experience don’t annoy me since most of the time he comes up with interesting grooves that sound retro one minute and new the other so he keeps things interesting instead of just repetitive. Plus there are surprises, the last song on 20/20- Blue Ocean Floor sounds like it would fit on a Thom Yorke solo album. There’s also a touch of Memphis, his hometown, on a couple of tracks which is as close to a reason I can come up with why I like his music. He’s only put out 3 (4) records since 2002 so he hasn’t gone Gaga and flooded the marketplace with one single after the next trying to make something stick. So I have to give him his props (do people still say that?) and finally admit in a public forum that I like JT. I had a difficult time many years ago admitting I liked that other JT and he had Carolina on his mind. One noteworthy difference between the two JTs, I’ve seen one of them in concert and I can’t imagine going to see the other. But, as they say, What Goes Around…….Comes Around.
